Crashed from the live DVD after booting up successfully (after about 20 seconds). It did this twice. The only other Gnopme 3 distro I have tried is Korrora which did the same thing.

Hi Alan, your question prompted me to try again. Ok, if I do nothing all is ok, desktop looks fantastic. However the first time I booted from the DVD I clicked on the home folder, second time I clicked on install, both produced a crash. Just now I clicked on the task bar, it did not crash but everything froze & I had to force shut down.

If it would help I can try a text install or maybe I can upgrade from the last version??

Hi Alan, I am going to check if a couple of other gnome 3 based distros will behave in the same way (from live dvd). Checking Deepin (ubuntu based) & LMDE (cinnamon), will get back to you.

Right guys court with pants down here. lol
Just done a quick spin gloria 64bt looks really good.
Live DVD boots fine on my nvidia based desktop
a couple of things to note shutdown text not visible for some reason shutdown works fine.
Could do with porting Ubuntu power manager so you can set set suspend to "never", lock screen to "never", Turn off screen to "never"
I like the choice of shell theme and icon
Don't care to much for the windows theme but perhaps we could have some more ideas from others on that a good start is Gnomish Grey a nice clean theme, may be that could be modified
Will install over weekend And start really testing

Ok Checked Deepin & LMDE. Manged to get Deepin to freeze but only after quite a bit of playing - now I know why I don't use Ubuntu based systems anymore - soo slow. LMDE on the other hand was very snappy & I actually liked the Cinnamon over the Mate version, I could not get it to freeze or crash. So I think there is something in Parsix 4 that isn't happy with my system.

My first expressions to Parsix 4:

My notebook get booted very fast, without any problem. there was not any crash problem that Jerry mentioned above. Installation was also very fast. (but again by the old installer :( )

after installation tests:
1- I don't know if this is by design or not, when the login page comes, the mouse pointer is in the right bottom corner of the screen.

2- Fn + Numlock was active by default. even after a restart.

3- again, tapping with touchpad is disabled by default. it's better to have it anabled by default.

4- I couldn't mount the hard drives. There was an authentication problem. (I type my password correctly) but I mounted them with mount -t

alltogether it's good enough. There is no major problems yet. I should test Gloria more...

@jerry525: Do you have any non Pentium 4 machines around?

@mandog: Agree about the shut down menu entry

@AmiNima: The centered cursor is a known issue of GDM3. See: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=673210 I will also take care of the touchpad & numlock settings

I just tried my son's laptop, Dell Inspiron 1520 Celeron M series:
Processor : Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 540 @ 1.86GHz
Memory : 1020MB
Resolution : 1280x800 pixels
OpenGL Renderer : Mesa DRI Intel(R) 965GM x86/MMX/SSE2
X11 Vendor : The X.Org Foundation
Multimedia-Audio Adapter : HDA-Intel - HDA Intel

It would not boot from the DVD at all, crashed straight away, sorry.

Alan got gloria installed to hardrive.
More problems
VLC uses alsa not pulse yes libvlc pulse is installed, it also messes up exaile by forcing it to run distorted applications in sound control lists exaile as as python v2.7 not exaile, log out exaile runs correct but no entry in sound till vlc is started again
clementine does not start
Pendrives seem to mount OK on my system.
There is a big problem with extentions crashing the system So I removed them from usr/share/gnomeshell/extentions, Installed The extentions I use in arch to ~local/share/gnome-shell/extentions.
will list them for all people if they ask to try.

TEST 1 iso:

Hi Alan, I've spent about an hour playing, here are my comments:

Live medium was fine, none of the instability I experienced last time. However when I went to close down I could not see a restart/shut-down button. When I pressed logout the system froze (& the same thing happened after I had installed it). There should be a reboot/ showdown button, or maybe I'm missing something.
Installation was fine, I sped through it but I don't think it asked me for a separate home directory, not sure if this is intentional/ desirable?
Desktop: Bar at bottom is on show/hide, not sure what this is for?
Text next to menu bar is not cool, plain black text.. Fantastic default wallpaper!
Could not set up printer from system settings - printers. I cannot add a printer????

Uses 122Mb RAM at start-up, very lean & mean considering the amount of apps.

You know my opinion on vanilla Gnome 3, I've been playing with PureOS which is also Testing + Gnome 3 & although it's a nice distro it hasn't endeared me to the desktop. I think it would be nice for a laptop though.
