I got some questions..

Postby kalle » Thu Jul 05, 2012 11:32 am

Is it easy to install ATI's non-free driver on Parsix?

What is the default web browser?

Is there any extra bloat or just like an regular Debian install?

What release cycle will it use?

I need this info is I gonna be able to switch...

thanks!

Yes you can install ATI drivers from the repro.
Iceweasel is the default browser
No its not bloated but it does contain most things you need
Parsix is fast
The release is 6 monthly with 2 distro upgrades per cycle, Parsix does not keep to a rigid release cycle so its when its fully tested then its released

I don't think so the CD is now to small for a modern distro, you can use a DVD-RW or a pendrive, to install, or use a core image that does fit a CD. If you use the core image you then have a lot of work downloading all the bits you need the plus side is you only installed the apps you need.

Hmm, Ubuntu fit on a CD and it's an all outofthebox distro. What make the parsix core different from just installing Debian without X? Also, 404MB for an distro without X, seems quite large to me....

I still wanna try this distro though, gonna test it in Virtual Box if I get some free time.

BTW will the next release feature Gnome 2 stable as the desktop?

To make ubuntu a functional os for every day use, you should download lots of packages such as multimedia codecs, media player apps like vlc and... but parsix have almost such stufs.

Parsix is based on debian testing. in debian testing, Gnome is in version 3. as an alternative, MATE desktop can be installed. But I don't recommend MATE, it's buggy!

Okey, well, it seems like Parsix have an different view on what's outofthebox and whats not, I don't think Parsix is anything for me, tried it in Virtual Box.

Good luck with the future dev though! :D
