XFCE version? Please

Postby Payam30 » Thu Sep 26, 2013 5:21 pm

I wasn't so interested of Parsix. I used Debian before and it's been very stabil and there is a lot to love and little to hate. since the Parsix is just a frock of Debian I would expect much more of it , especially the theme part of it.

I would love to see a XFCE version of Parix since I see that parsix group are very very good at design. so please make a XFCE dist and I 'm sure that many will use it including myself.

thank you for your work

Parsix roots are from Kantonix does its own packages uses the latest Gnome version on release has its own repositories so its not a dressed up Debian,
I don't think xfce is on the horizon or any other de for that matter as Parsix is Gnome,
xfce can be installed but will be a older version 4.08?

most of famoust dists do their releases in xfce , gnome and kde. the latest xfce release is 4.12 but 4.10 is used on most dists. parsix could beat voyager if they made a xfce version. gnome is way too boring and not as configuratable as xfce. downloding and installing xfce manually can u do on all dists and so is gnome. so it is not a good argument. thank u for you great job.

I disagree with gnome is boring, xfce is not finished in a professional way in fact vanilla xfce is very amateurish. Yes it can be made pretty with a lot of work, On the other hand Openbox is in really what a distro should be a blank screen with a nice wallpaper is the ideal, what is the point of icons scattered everywhere very untidy and very windows like, Gnone 3 is a professional desktop again no clutter, just a clean workspace,
thats my opinion?

Well I disagree. Xfce is not amaturish, it is high configurateable. and very lightweight which makes the computer more smooth. As I say many other famouse distros give XFCE, KDE and Gnome. Openbox is okej! but not a DE that distros give with their releases.
Xubuntu , greybird, and Voyager is an exellent examples. Xfce is not Windows like and even if it it windows like, what is wrong with that?

Well. I guess you wont give a release in XFCE so Parsix will not an option for me.

If you like Parsix but want a more up-to-date XFCE (or KDE,) then it's a simple matter to add the SolydX repositories and then install the latest XFCE from there.

Simply add the following lines to /etc/apt/sources.list

Code: Select all
deb http://packages.solydxk.com/production/ solydxk main upstream import
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/production testing main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/production/multimedia testing main non-free
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://community.solydxk.com/production/ solydxk main
AMD Phenom II 64 X6 1090T Black Edition Hexa-Core
8192 MB DDR2 RAM
nVidia GeForce GTX 660 w 2048 MB DDR5
Linux Mint Debian Edition 64 Bit
Parsix (Debian Testing) GNU/Linux 64 Bit
Liquorix Kernel 3.12.x
