Upgrading Parsix

Postby mzm800 » Sun Jun 26, 2011 6:55 pm

Log out of Parsix.

Go to Textmode by doing Ctrl+Alt+F1

logon as root, and then type:

init 3
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade
apt-get clean
init 5 && exit

Perforning the upgrade while in X, can damage your OS. All it mentions in the User Manual is apt-get dist-upgrade.

If your new to Parsix like I am, might not be good to update or upgrade unless you're experiencing a problem. I did, and was lucky I was running it in VMware. So it made it easy to reinstall. But it changed everything when I did upgrade and couldnt log in normally and most of the programs had changed. I had to use Failsafe GNOME to log in.
