How to open rar file with file-roller?

Postby yingwuzhao » Thu Sep 04, 2008 8:07 am

Hi, everyone, I just installed Parsix today, ( I used to use DreamLinux, but it crashed several times last week then I decide to change.)

In fact, I really love Parsix, it's really a lovely system.

A simple question: how can I extract .rar file with file-roller? I think I can extract it with no problem with file-roller in DreamLinux and some other distros, but why can't I open it in Parsix?

I prefer not install another archive manager, does anyone know how to open it with file-roller?

Or how do you guys open .rar files?
Thanks a lot.

there is also an alternative called unrar-free

unrar-free
Unrar can extract files from .rar archives. Can't handle some archives in
the RAR 3.0 format, only the non-free "unrar" package can do that.

rar fixer parses corrupted rar files. Restores lost rar files, uses copies of corrupted rar files and doesn't modify theirs, utility works under low system requirements.

7zip has a linux version at the bottom of the download page. You can try that.
This Guide is to how to open .rar files for windows it should not be too different from the linux version.
