Nautilus uses 100% of CPU and 100% of memory when trying to move/copy files on a remote connection. Locks up machine so only turning off the power can regain control.
A Google search shows this problem has existed for at least a year, with no resolution.
Gftp is not really a substitute, but if that's all that is available, I'll have to use it. Does anyone have a better suggestion for moving/editing remote files?
Other than that, I'm using Boss 2.0r0 with no problems at all.
Any substitute for Nautilus?

NO,
With SSH you can access a shell (command line) remotely on most Linux/Unix systems, to move files from one machine to another and it can be viewed as a secure replacement for FTP.
like you told, it looks ftp is a good substitute for Nautilus (and for you)

Actually, Nautilus crashes sometimes when operating locally, also.
Just deleting a directory can do it. I suspect the problem is related to
using Nautilus with Compiz. I'm working now without Compiz, and haven't
had a crash yet.
