Video settings for X? and installation

Postby tmrajkumar » Sat Jan 05, 2013 4:16 am

I downloaded the Jan 2013 4.0r version of Parsix and tried to install on a HP DM1Z netbook. It is a amd E-350 system with a AMD vision - i presume radeon graphics built in.
When I loaded the liveCD, I could not start it in regular mode. I was able to start it Failsafe Video mode. The system reported Gnome3 did not load completely, but everything seemed to work. So, I went ahead and installed it on my hard drive.
However, when I install, it appears to go into regular mode, and no proper display of video.
I was wanting to check, how I can correct the Xorg setting. How would I go about starting parsix straight in the text mode, so that I can perhaps check the xorg.conf settings..
Thanks

I recommend installing the FGLRX proprietary drivers as it appears the open source Radeon is not happy with your chip.

You can use the following boot option to override automated Radeon mode setting:

Code: Select all
radeon.modeset=0

You can add it to /etc/default/grub file (GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line) and run update-grub to save this option permanently.

Here is a link describing how to install the FGLRX drivers:
