Installation from flashdrive

Postby mahmoodkamal » Fri Dec 31, 2010 8:03 am

I have downloaded Vinnie and made a bootable USB drive using ´Unetbootin´. When I am trying to boot Parsix from this drive, I am getting this error:

Failed to detect live medium

/bin/sh: can´t access tty; job control turned off

(initramfs)

Can someone kindly help me!!! :(

Hi,

You should use parsix-iso2usb tool to create bootable USB keys. Refer to man parsix-iso2usb

Don't! need to re-install It is installed on your system, Just use it.
And use "parsix-iso2usb man" command to get further information, if you need!

Pardon me for my basic questions. But, I am currently using Mint. Is 'parsix-iso2usb' already installed? I am not sure. Where should I issue this command?

You can download it from here:

http://packages.parsix.org/official/poo ... 14_all.deb

Or you can run it on live-cd mode and use the command. You will need the ISO file accessible through your live-CD.

That means I can't make a bootable flashdrive unless I have a running parsix or a live DVD.

My suggestion (for future releases, of course) is to go for a two stage (or three stage) like Debian. If someone wants to download minimal he should be able to do it (to fit on CD for example) and later on upgrade via internet.

Failed to detect live medium

/bin/sh: can´t access tty; job control turned off

(initramfs)

I get this same message after I choose the boot my netbook from the Parsix-loaded USB flash drive.

If I reboot and choose "install or run Parsix" a lengthy search for hardware begins and then the desktop loads...

..and then freezes :x

I did compare MD5 checksums before installing with Unetbootin.

I'm convinced that this problem is with Unetbootin....that it simply does not recognize all the files. This problem happens when using Unetbootin to create USB drives with Fedora.

Replying to quite an old post, but i tried installing the installer deb from another Debian based distro (not Parsix) and it gave following missing dependencies -

parsix-installer depends on dialog; however:
Package dialog is not installed.
parsix-installer depends on gdm; however:
Package gdm is not installed.
parsix-installer depends on whois; however:
Package whois is not installed.
parsix-installer depends on usleep-parsix; however:
Package usleep-parsix is not installed.
parsix-installer depends on sysv-freeze; however:
Package sysv-freeze is not installed.
parsix-installer depends on gawk; however:
Package gawk is not installed.
dpkg: error processing parsix-installer (--install):
dependency problems - leaving unconfigured

Looks like iso cant be burnt to flash drive from other Linux editions.

In reality you only need to install this packges:

http://packages.parsix.org/official/poo ... .0_all.deb

It has some deps but you can find all of them on our apt repos:

http://packages.parsix.org/official/pool/

I thought it was me. glad to see this post.

With Unetbootin the debian live CD's work for me.

I don't think its Unetbootin specifically.
I also tried.
