Hi Alan, tried working through the above link. Just got a 64bit Lenovo for my daughter, installed Parsix and followed the NVIDIA installation link. I'm not having much success.

In the nvidia settings tool I get: "You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server."

The glx gears command doesn't work:
Code: Select all
root@parsix:/home/naomi# glxgears
Xlib:  extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual

I've attached the xorg.conf.parsix.generated file (renamed it to upload). Can't upload.... here's the code:
Code: Select all

Jerry.
I am not real great at linux but i will try and help. Goto the nvidia web site and download the latest driver for your graphics card and os. (32 bit or 64 bit) Then get into a tty. (alt F1 etc.) This must be done as root so use the comands to get into root user. Stop your GDM. /etc/init.d/gdm stop. Now cd to the directory where you downloaded the nvidia driver. Run the command sh NVIDIA what ever your driver is. Then just follow the instructions on the screen. Hope this helps.

Thanks mate, but this is beyond me. I had no idea it was so complicated.
I think I'll just install Zorin as I know it will work out of the box.
Thanks anyway, much appreciated. Jerry

Hi Jerry,

I think you have edited the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.parsix.generated all you need to do is run this command using root user and restart:

Code: Select all
# cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak && cp /etc/xorg.conf.parsix.generated /etc/X11/xorg.conf

nvidia driver should be activated then if you have installed all the packages mentioned in the how-to guide.

Thanks Alan, but I messed it up, got a blank screen. Eventually installed PCLinuxOS, my daughter is happy (& at least she didn't want me to install windows 7..).

Hi Alan, I want another go with Parsix (PCLinux os is unstable on my daughters system, graphics keep changing), do I need to download the drivers from NVIDIA for my card or just follow the instructions?

Hi Jerry,

Just follow the instructions. We have the drivers pre-compiled on repos. Let me know if you have any questions.

My TV computer is running on nVidia chip and this is the content of my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file:

Code: Select all
Section "Module"
    Load        "glx"
EndSection

Section "Device"
    Identifier  "Video Card"
    Driver              "nvidia"
EndSection

As you see, very minimal. Everything is being detected automatically.
