Try this see if it will work for you:

1) Run dconf-editor
2) Go to org -> gnome -> desktop -> input-sources
3) Change the "sources" entry to have a value such as "[('xkb', 'us'), ('xkb', 'ir')]" for En/Fa combination
4) Close the editor and log-off / log-back-in or reboot.

Let me know if that works. Please disable your current setxkbmap workaround prior to applying changes.

:D Thanks a lot. Without logging off or reboot, the above mentioned could solve the problem and language status notification appears on top panel as below screenshots:

As far as I can see, this doesn't work for me. I tried to set the keyboard for Germany with "[('xkb', 'de'), ('xkb', 'us')]", but it was rejected.

So I looked for further help in the web and the documentation files. Now with a simple console command I've set the keyboard for Germany (de):

parsix$ sudo setxkbmap de
