iceweasel sudden crashes

Postby lawmanuk » Tue Sep 09, 2008 5:12 pm

hi,

my iceweasel crashes suddenly sometimes with no notification, on a few different machines. alan said this is due to gnash, but i've removed gnash completely, in favour of flash.

the problem still happens spasmodically.

any solutions to this?

another weird one is that very infrequently, in the middle of work; i'm just logged out completely - losing all my work.

starting to remember blue screen crashes on windows :(

hi,

i'm still getting this problem, even though i'm on a different pc with 64bit new installation of parsix.

gnash is removed completely. and instructions to install flash were followed (even though i'm finding flash only working 90% on 64bit).

is there a way to stop these sudden crashes on iceweasel? it just disappears mid work.

yes, both laptop and desktop use built in intel 915 video card on motherboard.

so no work around other than to buy nvidia?

is this problem only with parsix? as not experienced with other debian distros.

In Theory If you do not have a problem with other Debian Distros you should not have a problem with Parsix as they use the same drivers,
I found this link for intel drivers and documents http://www.intellinuxgraphics.org/ you could give it a read.

don't think its a graphics card issue.. opera, swiftfox etc. all work fine.

must be an iceweasel issue?

i experienced a whole lot of crashes with firefox/iceweasel 3.x.x under both windows and linux. thinking it might have something to do with incompatible extensions and old profiles, i tried deleting the profiles and starting fresh. after that, the crashes stopped altogether.

the problem is that:

1. i can't install firefox when i try instead of iceweasel
2. swiftfox icons seem to be missing
3. opera has a horrible colour scheme which i can't change with skins or appearance, so is just black everywhere.

thanks

edit: strangely enough... after deleting iceweasel and the profile and then reinstalling, everything seems to work - including the newer flash sites that didn't work for mandog and me above. woo hoo

Hi Alan,

Just a note. Even, though iceweasel is fixed on my account, by uninstalling and deleting profile, then reinstalling again - when logging on the same machine with a different account, iceweasel kept crashing again.

I simply deleted the profile and hopefully this will have resolved the issue.

If this issue could be resolved in future parsix, that would be great.

thanks

i went to that site and didn't have any crashes, but didn't click around too long either. was it a specific page you tried to load that produced a crash?
just a couple ideas, what extensions do you have installed? possibly try starting iceweasel in safe mode from the terminal.

there's also a troubleshooting section here:
http://wiki.debian.org/Iceweasel

not sure how helpful that is, but i wish you luck.

I've had strange crashes of IceWeasel/Firefox.

In my experience with other Debian and Debian derived distros,
sometimes installing NoScript helped to stop the disappearances.
Perhaps it is a pointer, memory or some other error. Probably most
any extension might help.?

Changing to another variety of Firefox sometimes helped.

[edit: And it usually seems to happen to me after a new install.
And something fixes it, but I'm never sure exactly what.]

1). VLC= Del
2). Mozilla-plugin (Mplayer)= Instal.
3). Iceweasel=O.K.
