Hi, there!

I have been using many different editions of LiveCD's for Parsix; however, every time I boot up with one of them, it appears that the LiveCD chooses either my internal sound card or my external USB sound card as the default sound card, choosing one or the other randomly for every boot up. My question is, is there a way that I can force the LiveCD to use my external USB sound card only?

Try disabling your internal sound card in your system bios

Thank you, but I am thinking about something like a command on the terminal to force the LiveCD to use the external USB sound card. I seem to recall that this is possible to do.

P.S.: I wouldn't like to disable the internal sound card since I sometimes make use of it while I am not on LiveCD mode.

you may be able to go into sound preferences and select the external sound card, right click on speaker icon, click on mixer, click on drop down list check options click on choice , i'm sure there must be a command at boot but you have to use it every time you boot the live cd as you can't save the settings and it takes time to type it in every time.

Which edition of the LiveCD are you using? After right clicking the speaker icon, I just get Mute, Open Volume Control, Preferences, Help, About, Remove From Panel, Move, and Lock To Panel but not Mixer.

That sounds okay, but what about a command after the LiveCD loads up following boot up?

Okay, so I went to Preferences, and chose my external USB sound card, but it still doesn't work. Please note that when the LiveCD arbitrarily chooses the USB sound card during boot up, everything works perfectly. So it is not a matter of my USB sound card not being compatible...I just want to be able to use it every time I use the LiveCD or at least be able to force it.

P.S.: I know this is a long shot, but alternatively, is there something like Remastersys for Parsix? As you might know, Remastersys lets us re-create a liveCD (on Ubuntu and derivatives) after making changes to the LiveCD while keeping the changes made to it. If I can use an equivalent to Remastersys for Parsix, my problem would be solved, for I can simply re-create my origianal LiveCD when compatible with my external USB sound card so that my new LiveCD be always compatible with my external USB sound card. Of course, I would still be happy with a command line as described before.

This looks promising...if I can make it work! Unfortunately, I don't quite understand it. Okay, I downloaded parsix-iso2usb on my LiveCD, so please let me know, what do I do next?

Hi, readers!

Unfortunately, after researching a bit more, I think that parsix-iso2usb is intended to work with the default ISO's only (the ones the can be downloaded from this site). So, in essence, I can still not create a new ISO based on a specific state of my LiveCD ):

I have not tried myself to put parsix on a key but when I clicked on man parsix-iso2usb
in the terminal it states that it uses persistence that usually means it will save settings etc once its up and running

It could be, Mandog, but it is not that straightfoward. If anybody knows how to achieve what Mandog is saying, please post to the group.

Still another possibility would be to modify an original LiveCD ISO of Parsix via IsoMaster to make it stop recognizing my internal sound card. I am sure that what I need to do in such a case is to delete or rename some files. Please help me, readers, how do I go about this? Of course, once I modify the LiveCD ISO, I just burn it to a new CD, and this new CD will only recognize my USB external sound card (since I modified it to stop recognizing my internal sound card). That's my dream. Again, people, would you care to help me?

Hello, e-group!

There is a solution to this situation which is, before starting the LiveCD, hook up the sound card and the headset, start the LiveCD, and once it is running, type at the terminal (it doesn't have to be the root terminal):

sudo alsa force-reload

This would make the system recognize the external sound card.

Once caveat, thought. It appears that this method doesn't work on 3.6 "Vinnie" which I think it's a bug. Apparently, this method works on all other versions, but I need to double check. Please give a few weeks, and I will report back on which specific versions it works, but again, I think it works on all other versions.
