My comments about test3 elsewhere
"Installed the test Parsix GNU/Linux 3.7 Test 3, and it is a good'ern. Intuitive installer, good range of aps, neat desktop art, everything just works, default monitor resolution out of the box.
So we have Debian stability, trustworthiness with a more user friendly atmosphere. Better than average documentation up front. As for the user experience, other than above, It is GNOME, so has to be twice as good for me to appreciate <G>< So far I am impressed"

Thanks guys No gotcha's so far

Have the r3 test 64bit iso which I have run on a generic PC with Athlon3700+. When I attempt to play a commercial DVD with VLC I get a window showing only black. I have tried various video output settings in VLC but still just get the black window, except with one setting where I got some output but compressed into one side of the VLC window and effectively unviewable. Afraid I haven't recorded exact details of tweaking. The video card is nvidia 7600gs.

Any idea what this is, what to do? Or what other info would you like? The machine plays DVDs from same drive using 64bit Puppy, Mint, etc.

From Vinnie live on a ThinkPad R40 with 512MB RAM.

I performed an update from the live DVD today.
After installing updates I then pressed the reload button on the package manager. I got a message;

"Failed to fetch http://packages.parsix.org/wonderland/d ... ackages.gz 403 Forbidden
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead."

Tried to install docky, got a warning message saying not authenticated..

Installing previous packages: # apt-get update && apt-get install `cat /root/diffpackages-xxxxxxxx-xxxx.txt`
I do not know how to use this. If I type this in the terminal I am not sure what to type for the xxxxx bits (sorry abiut this guys...)

I had a panel icon which suppressed sleep mode but I cannot find it in the "Add to Panel" window.

Apart from this everything works fine, even my scanner which previously did not.

PS: The live DVD gave me issues playing youtube videos in full screen & the panel bars on one session did not load. But these issues were not present in the installed version.

Excellent installer by the way.

I'm using raul 64bt installed and nvidia graphics driver vlc works out of the box when playing commercial DVDs

I have now more problems probably caused by me trying to sort out the above:

Failed to fetch http://us.mirror.parsix.org/official/di ... Sources.gz 404 Not Found

I cannot now install anything with the package manager. Any help appreciated.

So sorry about this - If this is a pain I can use Ubuntu until the release comes official & just do a complete reinstall the final release of Raul.. aaagghhh..

Hi,

Your /etc/apt/source.list entries are wrong. They should read:

Code: Select all
# Parsix
deb http://packages.parsix.org/official raul main contrib non-free
deb-src http://packages.parsix.org/official raul main contrib non-free

deb http://packages.parsix.org/continent raul main contrib non-free
deb-src http://packages.parsix.org/continent raul main contrib non-free

deb http://packages.parsix.org/wonderland raul main non-free
deb-src http://packages.parsix.org/wonderland raul main non-free

deb http://security.parsix.org raul main contrib non-free
deb-src http://security.parsix.org raul main contrib non-free

Remove everything you have on that file and add there. Once done, do a:

Code: Select all
# apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade

Thanks Alan,
I tried modify the text in the /etc/apt/source.list but it's a read only file. I copied the file onto my desktop & modified that but cannot insert it back in the original folder. It also wont let me change the permissions. Must be doing something wrong I know. Thanks.

Try gksu /etc/apt/sources.list It will then ask for your pwd. You should be able to modify the file then. # apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade must also be run as root.

I tried the following:
Code: Select all
Jerry@parsix:~$ gksu /etc/apt/sources.list
sh: /etc/apt/sources.list: Permission denied

Jerry@parsix:~$ su
Password:
root@parsix:/home/Jerry# gksu /etc/apt/sources.list
**
GLib-GIO:ERROR:/svn/pkg-parsix/pkg/raul/main/glib2.0/build-area/glib2.0-2.28.6/./gio/gdbusconnection.c:2279:initable_init: assertion failed: (connection->initialization_error == NULL)
Aborted

I found this on a forum and also tried;
Code: Select all
gksu nautilus

This worked and allowed me to open and paste all the above stuff from Alan in the sources.list file. I then logged out & did the update in the terminal.

BUT I still get a message: Failed to fetch http://security.parsix.org/dists/raul/c ... Sources.gz 403 Forbidden
Failed to fetch http://security.parsix.org/dists/raul/n ... Sources.gz 403 Forbidden
Failed to fetch http://security.parsix.org/dists/raul/c ... ackages.gz 403 Forbidden
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

I have a message in the package manager main page "No apt-xapian-index found"

OK, just rebooted & reloaded package manager, no issues now, all seems to be fine... still have "No apt-xapian-index found" in PM. Assume this is ok?
